We Can Differ Without Dividing

@Jim Stilwell

Taking sides, forms a divide.

Friends and loved ones, are seen across the chasm

seemingly separate.

We gaze from our place in pain and confusion.

Our eyes see differently, from theirs.

We want to understand but we can’t work the equation.

Solutions escape us.

This chasm, this wound is deepening…

Causing suffering for all but the very few.

We are being shown our wounds,

our weaknesses, and our failings.

It has shattered us.

Our collective shadow is frightening.

We are being made aware of where we need healing,

where we need therapy,

where we need reconciliation.

We the people are a courageous group of folks.

We won't let this toxic atmosphere of "win at any cost" continue to divide us

We can put down our weapons, rise up and gather together

to save our democracy; our dignity; our humanity; and our union.

We can do this within our own hearts, within our own families,

within our own neighborhoods, within our own communities.

We can differ without dividing.

We cannot let the political machine destroy us.

We are the unsuspecting foot soldiers

being manipulated on a battlefield we may not see

but we can feel.

Yes there’s a chasm.
Can we look into each others eyes?
Can we see past our differences to our shared humanity?
And begin to mend the rent in the fabric?
Melt the ice in our hearts?
Can we imagine the day we grasp hands and link arms across this divide?

Our Democracy, flawed though it may be, is a tremendous gift.

It's up to us, all of us, to preserve it.

Imagine Another World. Fight For It.

If you could only take a backpack, what would be in it?
Wish I could put my people in my backpack.
I'll envision them walking right beside me. kas
