Keep Me Fiercely Kind

This plea/wish/hope/prayer sounds a mighty gong inside;
as I find myself face to face with my own meanness and self pity.

Not something easy to acknowledge but there it is.
In all its lack of glory.

I'm reminded of Desiderata
"Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.
 As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.
 . . .
And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him/(Her) to be. (or not).
And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

It's important to remember "without surrender"  I'm thinking.
There are times when "being nice" is a cop out.
"Cop out" is an unconscious play on words here,
 as the current college protests come to mind.

"It is still a beautiful world."
