For this winter solstice...
May we know our darkness from our light
and our light from our darkness.
May we live our lives in deep rootedness and glorious flight.
Each of us an axis of eternity,
as mysterious and immense as a clear sky at night.
Capable of astonishing change ...
survivors of immeasurable events,
flung upon some reach of land.
small, wet miracles without instructions.
